Pick And Choose

From the moment we are born, we are thrown into a world where we learn to pick one thing over the other. We pick our favourite colour, favourite number, favourite animal, favourite toy, favourite brand, favourite food, the list goes on. There’s nothing wrong with picking and choosing, but have you ever stopped to consider why it is that you pick one thing over the other?

We go to a grocery store, and we pick the fruit that we want and leave the other one. But why didn’t you pick the other one? Have you ever reasoned that our subconscious mind pushes us to choose something over the other? There is always a reason why we choose something. Whether we know it or not is the difference. Maybe, you don’t like the apple because it’s too pale or too round. Whatever the reason is, there’s a reason. People may look at you like you’re crazy because they believe the reason for you choosing it is insignificant. However, are they the ones eating the apple? Don’t let someone make you feel bad for choosing something because the reason doesn’t align with what they believe. If you know why you’re choosing something, hold your ground.

Every day we are choosing to do something or not to do something. We are choosing our jobs, the house we live in, the school we go to, the area we reside in, even the friends we have.

Some people choose to hold on to their friends because they’ve known them since they were a child, even if that friend is longer good for them. As a child, there was something about your friend that attracted you to them. The way they talked, the way they looked, their talents and gifts. Something about them, connected with something inside of you. However, as you grew you stayed with them even if there was something about them that wasn’t right because maybe you felt you had an obligation to be friends with them.

There’s nothing with picking and choosing, but learn to figure out why you’re choosing what you’re choosing. As long as you’re fine with the reason and you’re not harming anyone, then stick to it. However, when you don’t choose, you let other people choose on your behalf. Funnily enough, you still chose, but instead, it was to give them the power.

One of the ways to understand why it is that you pick and choose certain things is to get to know yourself. When you know yourself, you will know why it is that you what you do. Ask yourself questions, why do I like this? Why do I want this? How will this benefit me? Is this going to help me? Will I enjoy it? Will this grow me? The question leads to answers, answers lead to understanding, and when you understand yourself, you will understand why you do the things you do.

Picking and choosing isn’t bad, but consider why it is that you pick and choose something over the other.

As a Living Piece, we all have a part to play. You may be a piece by yourself, but together we create the bigger picture, the Masterpiece.
